MEDICAL & VETERINARY LASER THERAPY

What is Low Level Laser Therapy?

Low Level Laser Therapy, commonly known as LLLT (also cold laser, soft laser, LILT) is a form of phototherapy which involves the application of monochromatic and coherent light to injuries and lesions to stimulate healing.

Unlike non-coherent light emitting devices, such as common LEDs and so-called SLDs (usually just infrared LEDs), the coherent, monochromatic and polarised radiation emitted by LASER has unique, specific, and scientifically-proven effects that persist deep into the tissue.

horse What is LLLT used for?

LLLT at 810 & 904nm (infra red) is used to increase the speed, quality and tensile strength of tissue repair, resolve inflammation, and give pain relief. 660nm (visible red) is particularly good at speeding up wound healing. Lower wavelengths in the blue spectrum (440nm) have anti bacterial properties.

Class 3B or Class 4?

There is much confusion in the market place over which is best, Class 3B or Class 4. With some manufacturers pushing over priced Class 4 Lasers and stating Class 3B is unsuitable, its not surprising potential customers are confused. The reality is there are plenty of Class 4 lasers available that are too powerful for therapeutic applications (they can burn tissue) but also plenty of lower powered devices available that put out less power than a TV remote control. We sell lasers that occupy the middle ground therefore offering outputs that offer fast, effective and safe treatments. Most SpectraVet & LZR7 laser probes are either close to the limits of Class 3B or slightly into the Class 4 range.

Whats the difference between a medical and veterinary laser?

Medical lasers have to go through more rigourous regulatory & safety testing, so tend to be more expensive. Although our veterinary lasers are safe to use on humans as they are manufactured to the same medical standards, they should not be used on humans, especially in a proffesional capacity. Such use would certanly invalidate any public liability insurance you had. SpectraVet veterinary lasers are supplied with extensive small animal and equine protocols as well as access the the excellent 6 hour long online training course. Our medical lasers are provided with comprehensive medical protocols.
